Has a professional practice of more than 25 years in the Intellectual and Industrial Property area in matters concerning trademarks, patents, trade secrets, e-commerce, copyright, unfair competition, franchising, domain names and litigation in these areas.

He is former President of the National Association of Corporate Lawyers, Bar Association (ANADE), an active member of the Mexican Bar Association, the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the International Trademark Association (INTA), The Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association (ABPI), the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Licensing Executive Society LES and the American Bar Association, and is legal chapter of IBLS (International Business Law Services) in Mexico in Electronic Commerce and Intellectual Property.

He is licensed to practice as a lawyer throughout the Mexican Republic since 1994. He received his degree in law from the Anahuac University in Mexico City under the thesis entitled "The Trade Name in the Mexican Law." He is as well expert witness acknowledged by The Mexican Copyright Office.

He has attended specialized courses in Mexico as well as in the United States of America, highlighting those of Comparative Law at Harvard University and International Business at the Escuela Libre de Derecho. He also received his Masters Degree in Intellectual Property at the prestigious Law School of Franklin Pierce in Concord, New Hampshire in 1995.

In the year 2005 he attended courses of mediator and advanced mediator in Conflicts related to Intellectual Property given by the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland. He has participated as a speaker in several national and international forums, as well as a columnist in multiple media regarding Intellectual Property issues.

Mr. Mendez was the local partner in the practice of law of the Intellectual and Industrial Property of the international firm Baker & Mckenzie and he was also the founding member of Alegría, Méndez & Fernández Wong, SC, firm specialized in Intellectual Property matters.

Emmanuel G. Cortés, lawyer and Founding Partner of Méndez + Cortés, S.C., has a practice of over 15 years in the Intellectual Property area, primarily in patents, trade secrets, trademarks, domain names, sanitary registration and litigation in all areas of IP.

He is currently Vice-coordinator of the Committee of Industrial and Intellectual Property of the National Association of Corporate Lawyers, Bar Association, (ANADE), position that has held during the bienniums 2007-2008, 2009-2010 and 2013-2014. He is also member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), and an active member of the Committees of this Association during the last 6 years. He is also an active member of the Mexican Association of Intellectual Property Protection (AMPPI).

He has been a speaker about Industrial Property issues in several national forums, and has written articles for The Patent Lawyer Magazine and Marca Sur. He is former collaborator of the newsletter of the Mexican Institute of the Radio in connection with legal matters.

He received his law degree from Universidad Marista in Mexico City, he is licensed to practice law throughout the Mexican Republic and has attended specialization courses abroad, particularly at McGill College in patent matters.
